🔧Regrading Process

If you are new to Regrading the following steps will give you a more accurate view of the process that will be used.

  1. Plan the Slope
    -
Minimum slope: 2% (about 1/4 inch per foot) away from structures.
    -
Use a string line level or laser level to measure grade.

  2. Mark High and Low Points
    -
Flag or spray paint problem areas.
    - Mark where you’ll add or remove soil.

  3. Remove Existing Grass or Debris
    - Use a sod cutter or shovel.
    - Clear rocks, roots, and other debris.

  4. Add or Remove Soil
    - Use fill dirt (not topsoil) for leveling.
    - Compact soil in layers to avoid future settling.
    - Never grade soil higher than 6–8 inches below siding or vents.

  5. Smooth and Compact
    - Use a landscape rake to smooth.
    - Compact with a tamper, roller, or plate compactor.

  6. Check Your Slope Again
    - Re-measure slope before finishing.
    - Use string line or water level to confirm.

  7. Apply Topsoil (if planting grass or sod)
    - Add 2–4 inches of topsoil over the fill dirt.
    - Ready the surface for sod, seed, or turf.

This is a basic overview of the process that is used. This is not all the steps by any means but can be a great place to start. If you still have questions use the button below to call us!
